Carlingford man making progress in Oz following horror smash
Carlingford man Christopher Carolan is slowly recovering in an Australian hospital after an accident in October which left him with life-threatening injuries.
The physiotherapist was pleased with Christopher’s movements last week, when he was pushing himself up to a standing position.
Fr.Edwin Agius seen Christopher in Melbourne Royal Hospital and took it on himself to follow Christopher on his path to recovery.
It also turned out that he was responsible for the relic of Padre Pio which arrived in recent weeks.
Fr. Agius blessed Christy with the relic and promised to return at a later date.
Christopher’s mother Margaret played his music, sprayed his aftershave and chatted about his friends as if he was getting ready for a night out.
The sounds and smells helps to stimulate Christopher.
On Christmas Eve, Margaret was told by nurses that Christopher was standing up in bed again alert as ever.
The physiotherapist then asked Christopher to push himself into the sitting position on the side of the bed and then aided he stood up.
Christopher then put one foot in front of the other and walked around the room with the physiotherapist.
Margaret has said that she is grateful to all those who sent Christmas cards, mass bouquets and flower arrangements.
The receptionist at the hospital asked if Christopher was some sort of a pop star as she felt like Postman Pat with all the letters the popular man was receiving.
Recently, a special healing mass was held in St. Michael’s Church in Carlingford and was celebrated by Fr Brian Mac Raois.
There was a blessing of the candles, which represent the light that Christopher brought into the hearts of the many people he touched.
A special candle will be placed in every church on the Cooley Peninsula and will be lit at every ceremony until Christopher comes to his home at Grove Road in the village.
A picture of Christy will also be placed at the alters.
