Butler and Herr for Dearey seats on Louth County and Dundalk Town Council

Marianne Butler will take over recently appointed Senator Mark Dearey's seat on Louth County Council while Ollan Herr will take over his Dundalk Town Council seat, a meeting of the Louth Green Party decided last Wednesday.

The party met last week in the Fairways Hotel to choose replacements for the local publican, who was forced to give up his seat representing Dundalk South on Louth County Council and representing Dundalk Central on Dundalk Town Council following his recent appointment to Seanad Eireann.

Having won the seats in his party's name in the last local elections, the positions had to remain within the Green Party.

It came as little surprise therefore when his sister-in-law, Cllr Marianne Butler took over his County Council seat. A former bank official and business studies graduate, Butler was elected to Dundalk Town Council in June of last year after polling very strongly on her debut election in Dundalk East.

Accepting the nomination, Butler said: "I am delighted to continue working for the people of Dundalk East and I look forward to meeting the residents' associations and Tidy Towns committees in Dundalk South including Blackrock and working with them in the coming months and years."

After a keenly fought contest between three candidates, Ollan Herr was selected to take Senator Dearey's Town Council seat. Ollan went to school in the Christian Brothers in Dundalk and studied electronic engineering in DkIT. He is no stranger to politics having worked with Ardee councillor, Mary Kavanagh as her campaign manager in last year's local elections.

Ollan is a self employed water engineer and his company manufactures innovative ecological waste water treatment and water recycling systems.

Commenting after the selection convention, Ollan said: "I intend to focus on a clean environment and the creation of new jobs in the Green Economy. I'm really looking forward to representing the people of Dundalk Central on Dundalk Town Council."
