Local Poet Kathleen Maddy with local Singer Song writer Stuart agnew performing in the Green Church for Kathleen, Book of Poems launch

DUNDALK poet Kathleen Maddy hosted another hugely successful evening at St Nicholas’s (The Green Church) last Friday evening when she launched her new collection of poetry Breath of December.

Kathleen’s new book is a poetic reflection of the story of The Nativity and follows on from her previous collection which also had a Christian theme.

These new, highly original poems, are written as witness accounts by some of the main characters in the Nativity story.

Mary, Joseph, Herod, the shepherds, and the wise men, all tell their story as it really happened, in the same manner as the Three Wise Men did in Eliot’s famous poem Journey of the Magi.

The inn, the stable, the manger, the straw, and the oxen also tell what it was like for them to be part of the greatest story that ever unfolded.

The poems are a beautiful Christmas narrative, and this beautiful collection is published by Universal Publishing Group.

Breath of December is Kathleen’s third published collection.

Last April Kathleen launched, With Dawn I Arise, a collection of 33 reflections on the life of Jesus of Nazareth, focusing on the Crucifixion and the Resurrection.

It was launched during Holy Week and has proved very popular both at home and abroad.

These poems are written as witness accounts to The Passion.

Thus Pilate, Barabbas, Simon, Thomas and others express their reaction to what is happening.

Her first collection was Gold Rays.

Kathleen was joined for last week’s launch by singers Stewart Agnew and Lorraine Quigley, the choir of Kilcurry National School, and other guests.

It was a great evening of music, song, poetry and story telling.

Breath of December is a wonderful collection and is available in Easons, Stairway to Heaven, and Carrolls bookshop. It is also available on-line at www.writteninireland.com.
