ARDEE Town Council held a civic reception in honour of Ardee Tidy Towns committee at Ardee Castle last week.

The honour was in recognition of the town’s achievement this year in the national tidy towns competition when it won a bronze medal.

The chairman of Ardee Town Council Cllr Mary Kavanagh expressed a heartfelt thanks to the Ardee Tidy Towns committee for winning the bronze medal for the town.

She mentioned several of the projects undertaken by the committee including the recent Tree Trail and art work and its role in National Tree Week opened in Ardee last March by President Higgins.

The chairman of Ardee Tidy Towns committee Brendan Matthews accepted a special commemoration scroll which marked the occasion and thanked the members of Ardee Town Council for this civic honour.

He said the winning of the bronze medal did not come easy. It was achieved by is a lot of good work by many people over the years.

He thanked Mary Murtagh and all the staff at Louth Local Authority environmental department, all the schools, the town’s six residents associations who also work away maintaining their estates to a very high standard.

He also thanked the community workers at FAS and TUS who do so much good work throughout the town and without whom “we would have big problems”.

“We are lucky here in Ardee and indeed throughout the county to have such a person in Mary Murtagh who is the very heartbeat of tidy town activities in the county.”

“We in Ardee get more than our due share from Mary ably assisted by Claire.”

He said there is a whole network of people involved in Ardee’s tidy towns activities and to all of them he paid tribute.

“I say thanks for your support and keep up the good work. “We are only two marks off a silver medal.”
