Ardee man's film to be seen in Hollywood

AN Ardee man has written and directed a film to be screened at Hollywood.

Henry and Sunny, a short film written and directed by Fergal Rock from Ardee will be screened at the Feel Good Film Festival in Hollywood.

Over 20,000 people attend this festival which runs from 13 to 15 August at Hollywood’s prestigious Egyptian Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard.

The Feel Good Film Festival showcases films with happy endings, that make audiences laugh, and that capture the beauty of our world.

“Distributors from all major studios will be there,” said Fergal who is from the Kells Road.

“If somebody picks it up and it gets shown on TV then we will have taken a major step forward. When we submitted it to the festival organisers they loved it.

“So hopefully it will go down well.”

Fergal has just completed work on his third short feature.

“We finished it last month. It's now at the editing stage and should be finished by the end of the summer.”

Fergal graduated from University of Limerick in Media and Communication Studies and continued his education at Dublin Institute of Technology where he graduated in Film production.

Henry and Sunny is his second short film and tells the bittersweet tale of Henry, an unemployed clown, in love with the famous soap opera actress Sunny Carmichael.

The film has also been selected for a festival in Portugal the Fastnet Short Film Festival in Cork and the Eigse Carlow Arts Festival.

It was also screened at the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis in March and won the public vote at the New Arrivals competition in association with Rotterdam’s International Film Festival last month.

It will also be screened as part of the Underground Cinema Roadshow which opens in Fermoy on 4 July.

Post-production is currently underway on Fergal Rock’s third short. ‘On Our Way’ stars Dorothy Cotter and Matthew Keenan as two lost souls who meet by chance and find a connection.
