Annie Berrill celebrated the very special occasion last week surrounded by friends and family

Annie was born in 1912 at Maxwell Row in Dundalk, she later moved to the Newry Road and took on the responsibility of raising the four children of her beloved sister Mary, after she and her husband tragically died within a few years of each other.

Annie’s great passion in life is undoubtedly her family and when her brother Michael was killed in a road accident she generously and selflessly supported and raised his eight children who ranged from the ages twelve years to three weeks old.

Although Annie herself never had any children, there is no doubt that many benefited from her kind, and motherly nature.

The devotion and love that the many generations of the Berrill family have for Annie, bear testimony to the fact that she is loving and kind, and it has ensured that she has enjoyed much love in return.

As well as her family, Annie had another great love in her life - her garden.

This was reflected in the different colours and fragances in her garden as she worked along side her brother Fred to ensure a wide range of flowers bloomed.

Annie is a woman of great faith and although her life has seen many twists and turns, her faith has remained constant. She has lived a gentle and simple life, helping all whom she encountered, in any way she could.

She is everything that each true Irishman and woman should aspire to be.

Along with our nation’s president, her family salute Annie on her hundredth birthday and wish her continued good health and contentment in the years to come.
