The Scene of to nights Armed Robbery on the Mace on the Castletown Road

The staff at a shop and petrol forecourt in Dundalk were traumatised following an armed robbery that took place last week.

The robbery took place at the Mace shop on the Castletown Road at around 8.20pm on Wednesday night, September 12.

An armed man came into the shop and ordered staff to hand over money.

The staff handed over a sum of money and the man then ran out of the shop.

He made his getaway on foot and headed in the direction of Cox’s Demesne.

The man was said to be in his late twenties, 5ft 10.

He was wearing camouflaged clothing and had a scarf over his face.

Dundalk gardai are appealing for anybody with information about the robbery to contact them.

“We have had a couple of robberies in the past,” the manager of the shop said.

“The staff and particularly the two workers on the tills were left traumatised by this raid.

“They have been off for a few days but they are back working now.

“He got away with a sum of money, but what concerns me the most is that there were quite a few customers and staff in the shop at that time.

“They were my primary concern.

“There are safety procedures in place so that large amounts of cash are not on the premises.

“But the staff have been fairly shaken by this and the investigation is now a matter for the gardai,” said the manager.
