36 million euro plan that includes hotel, leisure centre and pool needs outside investors

Dundalk could see a new hotel, leisure centre and swimming pool in the near future after a project was given the go ahead by the town council, but outside investors are needed if the plans are to become a reality.

Dundalk Racecourse Developments LTD have been granted planning permission to build a hotel on land adjacent the Dundalk Stadium on the Racecourse Road.

The hotel will consist of 78 bedrooms and 88 suites all with ensuites, two bars, restaurant, conference centre, leisure centre and swimming pool. An ESB sub station and other associated works have also been include in the proposal.

Although this ambitious project would create jobs in the area, it’s unlikely that this project would come a reality without an outside investor.

Speaking to the Dundalk Democrat this week about the project, Mark Courtney of Dundalk Racecourse Developments said “This project is on the back-burner for the foreseeable future.

“We would need around w36 million to complete this project and unless things pick up, we couldn’t complete the project.

“We would need an outside investor to get involved, with the banks not creating credit it’s become very difficult for us,” Mark added.
