Dundalk town centre suffered further blows this week as long established retailers Duffner Bros and Sally West announced they would be closing their doors.

Jewellers Duffner Bros, who have been trading on Clanbrassil Street since 1928 and are currently holding a retirement sale until next Saturday, 12 April.

Fashion outlet Sally West made a similar decision to shut it’s doors. The clothing store stocks labels such as Avalon, Via Veneto, Bianca, Tia, Godske, Whimsy and Rene Derhy. They are also hosting a closing down sale.

Campbells Jewellery store at the Demesne also shut it’s doors for the final time on Saturday, 29 March, after a closing down sale.

Meanwhile Penny’s in the Longwalk Shopping Centre closed it’s doors for good the weekend previous.

The store, a main tenant in the centre, announced it’s decision to close back in January.

Clanbrassil Street and Park are already struggling for survival and it looks as though 2014 will be a tough year on the retail front for our town centre.

Other closures around the town this year have included Pulse Pacemaker and News and Deli on Parke Street.

The fire on Clanbrassil Street at Christmas also devastated two local businesses.

Lets hope that the rest of 2014 is a bit brighter for our town centre.
