Local businessman Stephen O’Connor has organised a 5k run in Dundalk for Clic Sargent (Childrens Cancer Care) and the Childrens Respite Centre in Lordship.

The run will take place this Saturday, 8 March and will start and finish at the cul de sac on the old Newry Road.

“It’s going well,” said Stephen who runs Ocad Insurance Assessors. “We hope to have between 200-300 people signed up by the weekend.

“It’s going to be a great day. Pelican Promotions are setting up a marquee and bouncy castles and a few businesses will be giving out freebies including Lidl who will be providing free refreshments at the end of the race.”

Stephen is determined to complete the run as three years ago he signed up for the Dublin Marathon but had to pull out after badly cutting his knee. Last year he signed up for the London Marathon but again had to pull out after receiving a job offer.

“I’m really grateful for the support and donations so far and would like to thank my running club Glenmore AC, Jim Gonnelly North East Runners, Paul McGee Extreme Fitness, BlackRock AC, Terry Steeples Military Fitness and Barry Casey Rock Fitness.”

Anyone wishing to sign up for the race can do so this Friday in the Marshes Shopping Centre from the centre kiosk outside Costa or on Saturday morning from 8.30-10.30am from the marquee at the race site on the old Newry Road. You can also donate at www.justgiving.com/stephenoconnor2014.
