Residents and businesses need to be consulted - Moran

Senator Mary Moran has warmly welcomed the proposal to remove the bollards along Chapel Street from Jocelyn Street junction to Union Street.

“This is something I first suggested to Council officials over two years ago following representations received by many residents and business owners in the area who were very unhappy with the situation,” said Senator Moran.

“I am delighted that it is now being openly discussed as a viable option.

“I would urge Council officials to consult fully with the residents and businesses in the area now that they are discussing making the area from Union Street to new street one way.

With the construction of a new school to replace St Mary’s College and a major extension for CBS primary school due to begin in 2014, there will be a lot of additional traffic activity in this area.

“It is vital that lessons should be learned from before and that the residents and businesses in the whole area be fully consulted.”
