Prestigious awards for musical society

Dundalk Musical Society are revelling in their success after winning two prestigious awards at the glittering AIMS awards ceremony which took place recently.

The ceremony which took place in the INEC in Killarney was attended by over 1000 representatives of musical societies the length and breadth of the country.

Every society is adjudicated throughout the year which culminates in a glamorous end of year gala. Karyn McCooey was nominated as best female singer for her role as Mrs Anna in the society’s production of “The King and I”, whilst sisters Phyllis Woods and Maria Waring were nominated in the best visual category, this dynamic duo oversaw Hair, Make - Up, Costumes and Props.

There was big celebrations as the society won both awards on the night.

Karyn started at the age of 12 in Musical Theatre with Dundalk Musical Society and her love of Music grew even more from there.

She is classically trained with the Royal Irish Academy of Music and in 2009 went back to attain her qualification in Music Teaching and Performance.

As well as singing locally, Karyn has travelled with her singing from the Czech Republic to Northern Germany, from Italy to the UK.
