Museum to get €5,000 in funding from government

The County Museum in Dundalk is to receive €5,000 of a purse of €12,000 that has been made available to museums in Co Louth.

The news has been welcomed by Minister for State Fergus O’Dowd and TD Gerald Nash.

Minister O’Dowd said: “Our regional museums and galleries play a vital role in the life and tourism offering of our county.

“They serve not only as tourist attractions, but also as custodians of local history, traditions and customs. The Local and Regional Museums Scheme is designed to support small and medium sized museums across the country.

“Projects funded under the Scheme enhance the cultural offering of museums; encourage greater access to museums and promote the use of museums as tourism resources in their locality or region.

Deputy Ged Nash said: “As a TD and a citizen who is actively engaged both nationally and locally on the culture and heritage agenda, I very much welcome this support.”

The Old Drogheda Society’s museum in Millmount will receive €4,650; the Highlanes Gallery will get €2,635.
