Dundalk runner Stephen O’Connor will be taking part in this years Glenmore Challenge Road Race.

The race, which takes place on Saturday, 14 June, begins at the Mullaghbuoy Community Centre at 11am and takes participants on a ten mile scenic route through the unspoilt valley of Glenmore. The valley is at the heart of the Cooley Peninsula and likewise, this year’s nominated charity The Maria Goretti Foundation, is at the heart of the local community.

The foundation was the brain child of the late John Hanlon and has recently opened a respite centre in Lordship, the Maria Goretti Foundation Respite Centre for Children with Disabilities. The facility currently provides four beds for children with disabilities and eight will be available by the end of 2015.

Stephen, who recently completed the London Marathon where he met former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Michael Owen wants to encourage everyone to take part in the race as it is for a great cause.

“This run is really about the local community pulling together and supporting the Respite Centre,” said Stephen. “The foundation works tirelessly to provide an invaluable service.”

Register for the event online at or on the day from 8-10am. Registrations before June 1st are €20 and all registrations after will be charged €25. Non Chipped walkers, mountain trail and road, will be charged €10.
