Dundalk Library hosted an EU election event on 27 February with the Europe Direct Information Centre at Dundalk library.

Keynote speaker was Mary O’Rourke, who in her inimitable style, entertained everyone with anecdotes from her colourful life in politics, her Dundalk connections and her

views on Europe, the economy and current political issues.

The expert panel included Francis Jacobs, Head of the EU Parliament Information Office in Ireland and Frankie Watters, Senior Lecturer in Law in DkIT.

Both speakers gave knowledgable insights into European law and current controversies. Gerry Kelly from LMFM proved to be an excellent chair for the night and kept questions and answers flowing on all sides.

Audience participation was highly interactive with plenty of uestions and debate.

Issues debates included the importance of democracy, healthy ageing, education and job opportunities, women and equal rights and the role of the EU in the every day life of a citizen.

The importance of everyone’s right to vote shouldn’t be taken lightly and everyone was encouraged to use their vote in the upcoming EU and local elections on May 23rd
