“I am not tired,” said Kevin Meenan, Sinn Fein’s longest serving councillor having been deemed elected to the Louth County Council.

Meenan was first elected as councillor fifteen years ago. He has successfully stood in five local elections and topped the poll in three of them.

“I will get up in the morning motivated,” Kevin told paper, “I have a list of work that has to be done this week. I can’t wait to get into that.

“It has been a hard and long campaign. We were always confident that we would do it. We couldn’t have done it better in Dundalk-South.”

But does Kevin take his seat for granted?

“I don’t take anything for granted. I appreciate every vote. The best way to thank people for their vote is to work for them. That is what I plan to do.

“In year’s to come, the political pundits will look back at how well Sinn Fein managed their vote across the county.”

“I’m looking forward to working in the chamber again. I am motivated. I enjoy working around Dundalk and in my electoral area.

“When you build on success, people expect more.

“Tougher decisions have to be made, but we are well up for it.”
