Jolly good time as nearly 5,000 santas hit Dundalk

Waiting for Video...

Nearly 5,000 Santas gathered in Dundalk on Friday night to take part in an attempt to break the Guinness world record for most Santas ever to run a mile.

The current world record is 4,000 Santas but Jimmy Cumiskey of Dundalk Chamber of Commerce has confirmed that 4,961 tags crossed the finish line and were collected, and so this means the record is well and truly smashed. Over 6,000 people started the race so the recorded number should rise over the next few days.

As well as breaking the world record, the event, organised by the Dundalk Chamber of Commerce, along with the Louth County Council and local businesses, is believed to have raised over €100,000 for five local charities: SOSAD, Men’s Shed, North Louth Hospice, SNAP, and Lordship Children’s Respite Centre.
