John Lonergan makes speech on mental health

Celebrated former governor of Mountjoy was the guest of honor at the launch of a leaflet promoting mental health in parents on Thursday.

The Healthy Minds for Happy Families leaflet aims to promote good mental health among parents.

Lonergan attended at the Redeemer school were he gave a key note speech on the importance of mental health among parents, and how a parent looking after themselves is the best way of looking after their child.

The leaflet is available from the O Fiach College, St Joseph’s NS, Bush Post Primary, Scoil Eoin Baiste, Castletown GNS and De La Salle Boys NS, Gaelscoil Dhún Dealgan and St Nicolas NS, and Redeemer Parish Schools.

Speaking to the Dundalk Democrat Mary Matthews of the Dundalk Local Comittee said the leaflet was joint work of the parents themselves and the Home School Liaison Co-ordinators from each of the schools.

“It’s important is this day and age that parents are mindful of looking after themselves.

“Mr Lonergan is fantastic speaker and he emphasised to the parents that no parent is perfect and that everyone makes mistakes.

“He also said that parents should be kind to their chidlren and kind to themselves, and that they should try to enjoy parenting.”
