Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a brutal assault on Dundalk bartender, Lawrence McGeown, who is in a “serious” condition in hospital following the attack on the Castletown Road last Friday.

In a statement Gardaí said they “are investigating a serious assault which occurred in a public house on Castletown Road, Dundalk between 9 pm and 10:30 pm on Friday 28th February 2014.

“A man in his 60’s received serious head injuries following an assault. He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where his injuries are described as serious.

“Investigating Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the Castletown Road area between 8:30pm and 12 midnight on Friday (28/2/14) or who may have information to contact Dundalk Garda Station.”

Mr McGeown (63) received treatment for his injuries following the attack on Friday night and returned home to Toberona. However, when his daughter went to check on him the following day he was unconscious.

He was then taken back to Our Lady of Lourdes where he is currently in a serious condition in hospital.

Gardaí are searching for the person or people involved in the attack on Mr McGeown.
