Music Generation Louth’s Junior String Orchestra were thrilled to come first place in the string ensemble competition at the Newry Feis recently.

The programme’s Playstrings Training Orchestra also played superbly well and pulled off third place in the same competition.

Both groups rehearse weekly on Saturday mornings in the Music Department of DkIT under the expert direction of tutor Jayne Graham.

The standard of playing in the competition was extremely high but the polished performances by both Music Generation Louth groups impressed everyone.

“We were delighted that both groups came home with the trophies this year,” said Gemma Murray, Music Generation Louth Coordinator. “Of course it is not all about winning but when it happens, it’s a great boost for everyone involved.

“Jayne is a fabulous leader for the group; under her direction these fifty young musicians are receiving quality training as orchestral string players and being part of a string ensemble has developed everyone’s playing beyond measure.

“The group worked hard in the lead up to the competition and the fantastic result was a tribute to all the hard work and commitment from Jayne, the children and their parents.”

Membership to both orchestras is open and Music Generation Louth are always delighted to hear from children and young people who would like to join.
