Fire crews were called on to tackle a gorse fire on the Cooley Pennisula this lunchtime.
Smoke could be seen rising up over the mountains since this morning, with high temperatures creating a perfect environment for the fires to run wild.
Speaking to the Dundalk Democrat, Louth County Council fire officer Eamon Woulfe said: “They are waiting on the fire, which is currently in a hollow at the moment. When it reaches higher ground they will beat it out.”
Mr Woulfe believes this could be the first of a number of gorse fires that could hit the region due to this week’s high temperatures. “We’ll know more in the next few days.”
