The chairman of St Patrick’s GFC, Alan Duffy, said Caroline Donohoe and the family were moved by the dignified tribute on Saturday evening and the fact that so many people were still saddened by Adrian’s loss.

“After the silent tribute, there was a half-hour candle lit procession to the clubrooms,” said Alan.

“We had every available table in the peninsula, and everyone got a cup of tea of coffee.

“People got an opportunity to talk to Caroline Donohoe and she was delighted to meet them and moved by their genuine sympathy and concern.”

Bunches and a basket of flowers were laid at the newly erected plaque at the gate of Lordship Credit Union in memory of Adrian over the weekend.

The marble stone is inscribed: Erected to the memory of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe who lost his life here on 25th January 2013 while serving his community. Ar dheís De go raibh a anam.

And for the members of St Patrick’s GFC the loss is still strongly felt.

Adrian was a role model, so actively involved in coaching youngsters.

“We miss him terribly,” said Alan. “There’s a huge void.”
