The funeral of Edward Haughey (Lord Ballyedmond) took place on today (Monday, 24 March) at the Cathedral of Saint Patrick and Saint Colman Newry.

In his homily, Canon Francis Brown said:

“Our experience of Edward’s death reminds us that death is a moment we will all face. For all of us life is a preparation for death and each day is important. When someone close to us dies it enables us to become that little bit more reflective. It deepens our focus about what is real and what is important.”

Chief mourners were his wife Lady Mary Ballyedmond, and children, The Hon. Caroline Braid, The Hon. Edward Haughey and The Hon. James Haughey.

Prayers of the Faithful were read by employees of Norbrook: Martin Murdock, Lillian Cromie, Madeline Irwin, Derek Rodgers, Martin Logan, Ciara Cunningham, Gervase McGinnity, Edel Sheeran, Crawford Jones (Lord Ballyedmond’s best man at his marriage).

Offertory gifts were presented by The Hon. Caroline Braid and The Hon. Edward Haughey, The Hon.James Haughey.

Dundalk businessman Brian O’Neill has said the tragic death of Edward Haughey will be a loss not only to industry in the region, but also to his many friends and all the people he so generously helped.

“People know him in Kilcurry, Faughart, and throughout the region for his generosity,” explained Brian O’Neill.

“He was tremendously generous.”

Mr Haughey was one of four people killed in a helicopter crash in Norfolk on March 13.
