The Dunleer Community Board will hold the local Christmas Festival to take place from 5 to 8 December. The press reception was held at the board’s new office at Ardee Road Dunleer where the planned program for the festival was outlined.

Eugene Conlon the chairman of the community board outlined that plans are in place for what will hopefully be another successful festival for 2013 with activities at a number of venues over the weekend and involving partnering with different organizations.

This Thursday, 5 December, Santa comes to town by sleigh and switches on the lights with lots of street entertainment.

The fun starts at 6.30pm.

On Friday the traditional Wren Boys competition will take place at Scoraiocht Ceile House at 7.30pm.

On Saturday the Christmas Fair will be held at Shearman’s Marquee Main Street.

Also on Saturday 7 Scoraiocht will hold heats for the S factor competition with €1000 in prize money with the finals and a monster session that night at the Grove House at 8pm.

On Sunday next 8 December a carol service will be held at St Brigid’s Church at 7pm.

The board would like to thank their sponsors for their support again this year.

Without their help they could not hold these sorts of activities.

The Christmas Fair was always very much a part of Dunleer life, and as the Market House is currently undergoing a complete renovation, Alan Shearman has kindly offered the use of his venue for the fair, just next door to the Market House, where a marquee will house the exhibitors.

The fair will be held from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and will provide young and old with the opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts and other needs from local arts, crafts and food producers, who will be exhibiting on the day.

The sponsors are: Dunleer Credit Union; V & P Matthews; Sure Tank; Tiger Oil; Lannleire GFC; Lannleire Juveniles GFC; Dunleer Youth Club; Joseph Reilly; IFM Mullin’s Cross; Burex Manufacturing; Cllr Finnan McCoy; Gold Crop; Dunleer Tidy Towns; Cllr Colm Markey; King Coal; Cherri Conlon School;

Capitol Auctioneers; Cllr Liam Reilly.
