Crash claims life of Dundalk man in Mayo

Communities in the greater Dundalk area were left in shock after popular local man Terry Beagan died in a head-on collision that claimed both his life and that of another man in Co Mayo in the early hours of New Year’s Day

Terry Beagan(43) worked in Customs Clearance and was well known in the Ravensdale and Newry Road/Dowdallshill area of Dundalk.

The crash occured shortly before 5am on the main Foxford and Ballina road at Ballynahaglish.

Both victims were taken to the mortuary at Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar, where post-mortem examinations will take place.

The main N26 road between Ballina and Swinford was closed for most of the day as forensic crash investigators examined the vehicles and the scene.

The other man killed was named locally as Gearoid Scully, a father and taxi driver who was originally from Dublin and had lived in the town for more than 10 years.

Mr Beagan is survived by his mother Maeve and father Terry Snr, his brother Michael and sister Joanne (McClean) and his partner Karen (McHugh).

He was buried at Calvary Cemetery, Ravensdale on Sunday following a funeral mass at the Holy Redeemer.
