Transition Year students from Coláiste Rís have been keeping themselves busy this year by entering the “One Good Idea” competition, run by the SEAI
The team of six students came up with the idea of creating an app in which you take care of and grow your own virtual tree.
“Our idea is to create an app where the user gets to grow and take care of their own virtual tree,” said team member and Coláiste Rís student Sara Radosevic. “This is to encourage people to grow actual trees and to preserve the ones we have.
The team hope that this will especially encourage their fellow peers and younger students to go out and grow an actual tree. It is not an unknown fact that teenagers, and people in general, spend hours upon hours on their phones. The “One, Two, Tree… Plant!” campaign aims to use this to encourage young people to make a difference and to help the environment. The campaign is about raising awareness and making people realise how important trees are and why we need to plant more of them and protect the ones that we have.
