Dundalk singer-songwriter Cathy Maguire won the Peoples Choice Award at the prestigious Irish Echo 40 Under 40 Awards held in New York City over the weekend.
The hugely popular event, which is in its seventh year, is hosted by the Irish Echo, the USA’s largest and most widely-read Irish-American weekly and is a celebration of Irish and Irish Americans who have distinguished themselves in their respective fields of work before reaching the age of forty.
Cathy, who was born in Dundalk but now lives in New York said that she was “absolutely delighted and honored to be chosen” as a recipient of the Top 40 Under 40 award.
There was more good news for the songstress earlier in the year when her album ‘Ireland In Song’ was officially added to the Irish Traditional Music Archive in Merrion Square, Dublin.
“I visited the archive many times while I was researching for my degree dissertation,” said Cathy, “As a country singer, I never in my wildest dreams thought that an Irish album of mine would one day be added to the collection there.
“I am most thankful to the people who have helped along the way.”
