Ardee students raise funds for Phillipines

In response to the news of the catastrophe in the Philippines caused by Typhoon Haiyan, the students at Ardee Community School decided to do something to help out.

At a meeting of the school’s student council, it was decided to hold a raffle in aid of the victims.

Many prizes were secured, including €100 donated by two teachers and first prize of a 32 inch TV.

This was donated by Mr John O’Neill of O’Neill’s Bakery in Annagasan.

The raffle was held on Friday 29 November.

Student Council chairperson Neil Reilly drew out the winning tickets.

The winner of the TV is third year student Jack O’Reilly.

Other prize winners included staff, students and parents.

All in all €1800 was raised for this worthy cause. Mr John O’Neill is photographed presenting the TV to Jack.

Second year student council representative Taylor Diamond is also in the photo.

He played a major role in the organisation of the raffle.

The money will go to Medicine Sans Frontières, otherwise known as Doctors without Borders.

Well done to the students for responding in such a generous manner.

The school has a very strong record in supporting charities both at home and abroad and this is just another example of how the student council and the school can help charitable causes.
