Mark McGeown from Ravensdale won the All Ireland Senior title at the All Ireland and International Sheep Sheep Shearing and Woolhandling Championships.
Mark (38) took the prestigious title on Saturday last, making him Ireland’s best sheep shearer in the senior category. He also went on to win 2nd in the International Senior compeition and an extremely impressive 4th in the International Open on the Sunday, in which he would have competited against the best shearers in the world. He also came 5th in the All Ireland Open category.
It has been a fruitful season for Mark, who is also leading the way in the Senior circuit, which could see go forward to represent Ireland in the World Championships next year.
Speaking to the Dundalk Democrat, Mark’s wife Eileen said he was in the “best shape of his life” and that outside of shearing, he was keeping fit cycling and running in preparation for competition.
