The Louth County Council have tasked its contractor to the first unauthorised dumping of toxic diesel laundering sludge of the New Year.

Reports have been received that two IBCS containing approximately 2000 litres of toxic material have been dumped at Gortin, Inniskeen.

Last year the Louth Local Authorities reported 103 dumping incidents in the county - mostly north Louth - which cost the local authority €686,000.

Three diesel laundering plants were also raided by customs in the county in 2013.
