The ending of the one hour daily free parking and a free half-day on Saturdays in Ardee is a real blow for Ardee traders.

The ending of the one hour daily free parking and a free half-day on Saturdays in Ardee is a real blow for Ardee traders.

Just when business was picking up the Louth County Council for the Ardee area, Mr Joe McGuinness dropped a bombshell at last week’s Ardee Town Council meeting when he announced that the scheme which has been operating for the past year is to be scrapped.

Mr McGuinness told members of the council that pay-parking revenue for the town is down by €21,000 so far this year and is set to reach €40,000 by the end of the year.

Mr McGuinness the collection of commercial rates in the town is down 70 per cent and this, coupled with the loss in parking revenue, cannot be maintained.

The pay-parking pilot scheme will end on 6 August.
