Realt na Mara National School organised a fantastic Christmas Shoebox Appeal this year and managed to collect an astonishing 72 boxes.

Mrs McCrory and her Senior Infants class were in charge of organising the event and the 1st and 2nd classes also participated.

Mrs. McCrory organises this event every year at Christmas and it is great to see the kids getting involved and helping out others less fortunate than themselves.

Mrs. McCrory and the school were taken aback by the generousity shown this year as some of the children even brought in two boxes to donate.

The shoe boxes were donated to the The Hope Foundation which works with with street and slum children in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta), India.

Their work involves care, development and protection of the human rights of severely underprivileged children/persons in India and other developing countries.

They support the development of underprivileged sections of society through partnership, support and capacity building.

HOPE funds and operates over 60 projects, and to date, through education alone, they have reached out to almost 25,000 children.

Their primary healthcare programmes, in partnership with Irish Aid, have reached hundreds of thousands of the poorest children and vulnerable families.
