The gravel has quickly been denuded and spread across the square. Dundalk Town Council say: “It is a resin bonded aggregate, 3mm thick. It’s the final surfacing to be laid on the Market Square and is an architectural feature and has skid resistant properties, it also offers a better contrast between the road and paved areas. It is being laid in the last few days as it could not be laid last December 2011 when the works were being completed due to low temperatures. There have been several attempts to get it laid over the summer but weather has beaten us on previous occasions. It is hoped the remainder of the resin will be completed on Sun 26th August but again this is dependant on the weather and needs ground temperatures in excess of 5 degrees celcius.”
