THE normally quiet College Manor Estate awoke this morning (Wednesday) to the shocking news that one of their neighbours had met a violent end and the grim scene of Garda tape, crime scene tents and assembled media at their doors.
Gardaí have not yet named the 34 year old-mother-of-three who died in the early hours of the morning in what are being described as “suspicious circumstances”.
At approximately 3.30am an ambulance was called to the gruesome scene at the house, where the body of the woman was attended to. The Democrat understands that the woman’s three children, and the husband were prescent at the scene.
The family are originally from the Travelling Community.
The body of the victim was removed after a technical investigation by the State pathologist.
Reporting from the apparent crime scene this morning, the Dundalk Democrat was told by the woman’s neighbours that having a death in such circumstances has come as a massive shock to the normally peaceful community.
One woman, who lived just a few doors down from the gruesome scene told the Democrat: “I knew her to see her. She was a quiet woman. Absolutely nothing out of the ordinary about her.
“I was awake when the ambulance arrived. It’s awful shocking.”
Another woman who lives just a few metres from the house of the dead woman told the paper: “The first I heard about this was when Gardaí came around knocking on my door to ask for information. I didn’t hear anything. It’s normally a very quiet estate, apart from the odd student party.”
A couple who spoke to the paper had come from a neighbouring estate to visit their relative said: “Completely shocked” at what appears to be a violent crime in a quiet suburban setting.
Another man who spoke to the paper said: “My brother’s friend told me about it. I just woke up this morning and all this was going on. It’s like something out of a movie. Unbelieveable.”
Another neighbour had not even known of the crime and described it simply as “terrible”.
