Local musician Melissa Hayes opened up the Blackrock Music School last October, situated above Danny Hughes in Blackrock
The school accepts students of all ages and levels who want to learn any style of music.
The school’s fantastic teachers are well known locally as well as throughout the country and are all accomplished musicians.
They include Melissa herself who is part of the band ‘The Backpages’ along with John Gray and Mark Connolly. They are a covers based band who play a variety of genres and have numerous years of live and studio work under their belts.
Melissa teaches guitar, fiddle, banjo, tin whistle, ukulele and bodhran.
John Conlon, known for playing in the band ‘Thin As Lizzy’, teaches bass, guitar and piano accordion while Paul Carolan from Dundalk band ‘The Trampz’ teaches drums.
Grainne Duffy, who has appeared on the front cover of The Sunday Times Culture Magazine and has been playing at many of Ireland’s Blues Festivals leads her talent to teach students vocals and guitar.
Caroline Manning, who is part of the talented family that make up the ‘Manning Sisters’ from Ravensdale teaches piano while Paul Campbell and Paul Sherry teach guitar.
Aine Murphy also teaches the flute and tin whistle and Eleanor Hoggard helps keeps things running smoothly as receptionist.
Lessons can also be taken in other instruments that are not listed above including the cello, piano, sax, uilleann pipes and much more.
Recently Dundalk’s secret millionaire John Fitzpatrick paid the tution fees for music lessons for young Joey McBride from Muirhevnamor.
