Following the launch of her new book ‘Breath of December’, Dundalk poet Kathleen Maddy has been asked to give a series of recitals to pupils of local national schools.
The objective is to introduce pupils of ages from 5 to 12 to the joys of poetry.
The poems describe the Nativity story.
They offer a vivid narrative to the Christmas story and stimulate the children’s imagination to help them connect to the birth of baby Jesus.
Among the schools visited were Realt na Mara, CBS Primary School and the Redeemer Boys School.
Kathleen wrote her first poem at the beginning of 2010 when she woke up from her sleep and reached for a pen and paper.
Since then she has written these poems in her spare time as a way to express her feelings, thoughts and desires.
Before writing the poems Kathleen likes to meditate, going into a state of quiet reflection and link to her soul.
She feels the words flow from the pen to the paper when she is writing.
Recently the poet held a concert to celebrate the launch of her new book on in the Green Church and it was a great success.
There was a good crowd who responded well to Kathleen’s poetry and the singing and music of Lorraine Quigley and a student choir from DKIT. Stewart Agnew also performed.
