Louth’s School Stars are to make their TV debut on Sky.
Sky Showcase will broadcast the current School Stars finals in January with a full series in the pipeline for Dance School Stars.
A chance visit to the TLT Theatre in Drogheda for the annual School Stars heats has catapulted the competition onto Sky TV with confirmation this week that the Dance School Stars 2013 competition has been chosen for a full series on Sky Showcase complete with a top celebrity judge, while two programmes documenting the finals of School Stars currently taking place will be aired on the channel in January.
School Stars organisers Pat Leddy and Stewart Agnew announced the news to excited finalists and supporters just before the Primary Schools finals at the TLT Theatre.
Confirming the Sky deal, the two men say they are over the moon that the competition is to get its own reality talent show on Channel 192.
Stewart Agnew said
“It’s been a very hectic few weeks,” said Stewart. “Basically a person involved with Sky came to one of the heats in a personal capacity and felt it was worth pitching to Sky Showcase channel.
“Obviously it was too late for a series on the current School Stars and so it’s been decided that the Dance School Stars is to get a series along with a top judge. “Although we haven’t confirmation on who it is going to be yet, we have heard a few names and we are very excited.”
Pat Leddy said that the show will continue to be filmed in Drogheda.
The Dance School Stars will be held in the TLT Theatre as always.
In the meantime the primary and secondary school finals will take place this week. SKY will record both finals and will also take their cameras to local schools to film some of the finalists.
Finalists to feature in the January broadcasts will include: Annie Byrne - Scoil Bhride Ardee; The Twinklets - Stabannon NS; Mega Stars - St Francis and St Oliver’s Dundalk. Secondary: St Vincents, Dundalk; Scoil Ui Mhuiri Choir, Dunleer.
