Caoimhe Carroll and Chris Moore have recently launched ‘On Yer Bike’, a professional bike hire company based on the Tain Trail in Carlingford. Caoimhe spoke to the Dundalk Democrat about how the idea came about.
“I had been keeping a close eye on the Rural Development Programme in Co. Louth and noticed that there was a great increase in the amount of cyclists and cycling as an activity around Carlingford and the Cooley area.
Our premises is based on the Tain Trail which makes it an ideal spot for cycling.”
Caoimhe said that the business not only offers an alternative activity but it is also about promoting health.
“We are situated at The Apothecary Centre, a holistic centre that boosts some fantastic therapy rooms, we also produce the infamous aromatherapy brand Ogam oils there.”
Caoimhe is also interested in using the company to help the development of the Carlingford area.
“Recently the area has received a large amount of funding for a 6km bike track that will run along the old railway line between Omeath and Carlingford so we want to help attract tourists to the area.”
One of their main customers is families and Caoimhe said that her and Chris wanted to set up On Yer Bike as they have a young family themselves and cycling is an activity they enjoy as a family.
“We noticed that the only other family activities available in the Carlingford was the Adventure Centre so we knew there was huge potential here. We cater for families, groups and mountain bikers.”
