DUNDALK based businessman and former Presidential hopeful Sean Gallagher is expected to address the Twittergate saga at a Media Future conference in Dun Laoghaire.
Gallagher is addressing the Media Future conference where it is expected he will elaborate on his feelings regarding the incident that many believe was the difference between him taking the Aras and being left on the political scrapheap.
According to the event’s website: “Mr Gallagher’s appearance will be by way of an interview that will take a unique look at his presidential election campaign and, in particular, will focus on the dramatic role social media and the Frontline debate played in the final result.”
The interview will be broadcast live today (Tuesday) from 2.15pm on Aertv.ie, Magnet’s online TV service.
Gallagher pro-actively used social media during his campaign, yet it was ultimately on social media site Twitter that his campaign fell asunder.
A false tweet suggesting that proof would be provided at a press conference regarding the collection of a payment for a Fianna Fail fundraiser the following day was put to Gallagher by Pat Kenny on RTE’s Frontline Presidential debate.
Gallagher was flumoxed by the question and lost the campaign as a result. He was later vindicated when an investigation into the show that producers had acted inappropriately.
The interview that Gallagher will be the first time that Gallagher will speak openly about scandal dubbed Twittergate.
