THREE young boys from Dundalk are set to appear in the new science adventure series ‘The Mountain’ on Friday, February 10 on RTÉ Two at 5.30pm.

Bay Estate NS pupils Luke Hazzard and Tiernan Reilly, and CBS student Fergal Mulholland put their skills to the test in science-based challenges around an adventures style course.

Known as the Orange Team, the local boys take on a team from Dublin in the episode. The teams have to make use of scientific knowledge given to them to complete tasks in the rounds: Basecamp Experiment, The Big Predication and CSWhy? Crime Solving.

To begin their ascent of The Mountain each team must complete a Basecamp Experiment. Here they are provided with scientific facts or principles and are asked to complete tasks often against the clock.

The tasks include; make a compass, build a periscope to decipher a semaphore code, use the principles of force to adjust a catapult to hit a target, master the workings of a Trebuchet to fire objects; solve a Tower of Hanoi puzzle, complete an aqueduct to transfer energy, complete an electricity current, use the Bernoulli principle to transfer balls and work with gravity to play a giant game of pinball.

After each round, the victors can select an opponent to send to the ‘Pit’. At the end of round three, those in the ‘Pit’ are given a chance to break out if they crack The Mountain cipher.

The action culminates with a ‘Final Assault’ obstacle course race to the summit.
