I had very enjoyable & informative day with Comhairle na nOg at their Annual Conference in Dromantine Co Down last Friday 25th October. Students from Secondary schools & Youth clubs from all over Louth took part and did workshops in relation to issues affecting them which included feeling safe & protected in their communities, Health issues including mental health and lack of recreational facilities. All participants opinions were respected and encouraged and all got their opportunity to speak - if they so wished - all information was collated and presented to us at last session before lunch which included ownership and immediate action by Government to enact laws to prohibit cyber-bullying which they feel is huge issue, another point was that TD’s, Councillors are paid too much and they don’t care about young people until there’s an election coming up !
There are 29 Councillors in Co. Louth who were invited to this event and 2 of us were able to attend - I found it thought provoking stuff and would really love if you could maybe talk to Aine Chairperson of Louth Comhairle na n-Og and Kevin from Dundalk Youth Centre who organised this great conference and maybe highlight in an article the issues young people from all over Louth would like to address. These young people are our future and we need to be supporting them in anyway possible.
