As the whole country erupts into Garth Brooks mania with tickets to his concert in Croke Park going on sale this Thursday, local man Denis Molloy recalls his meetings with the Oklahoma singer.
Denis has met the country legend a few times but the most recent meeting was in Leogane in Haiti in November of 2012.
“I was in Haiti taking part in the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project”, said Denis, “Garth was also involved with the project with his wife Trisha Yearwood.
Denis, who is from Castlebellingham, is a regular volunteer as a chef with charity Haven who work solely in Haiti to help build sustainable communities. He has also been lucky enough to meet former US president Jimmy Carter
“Garth is a very down to earth guy and a true gentleman.
“He always remembered me from our first meeting and we have worked on a few charity projects together. He always comes into the kitchen looking for me.
“He would put on private concerts for us and he even skyped with my daughter Kate who is a big fan.”
Denis still speaks to Garth regularly is looking forward to seeing him in July.
Tickets to Garth Brooks concert go on sale this Thursday, January 30. News and Deli on Park St, who shut their doors last weekend leaving Dundalk without a Ticketmaster outlet, have announced that they will open on Thursday to accomodate sales.
