Thomas Reilly (20) of Cappocksgate in the town was charged at Ardee Court with the growing of cannabis plants or opium poppy that was stated to have a value of €5,000.

He is also accused on June 2 last at Cappocksgate with possession of drugs and possession for sale or supply.

Judge Patrick Clyne accepted jurisdiction in the case that the DPP agreed to be heard in the district court.

It was adjourned to next month’s sitting of the court on December 9th for the defendant to plea or a date for a hearing to be fixed.

At the same sitting of the local court Peter James McCann (32) of Drakestown, Smarmore faced similar charges also for the cultivation of cannabis plants or opium poppy, possession of drugs and possession for sale or supply at his address on February 12th last.He also will be dealt with by the court, with the charges put back to the December sitting for a plea or a date
