A Sinn Fein delegation including Deputy Gerry Adams and Cllr Pearse McGeough recently met with Garda Superintendent Ray Brennan of the Ardee District to discuss Anti Social and Criminal Activities in the Castlebellingham area .

Speaking to the Democrat after the meeting, Cllr MeGeough said: “Over the last number of months I have received representations on a daily basis from residents who have serious concerns, which I share, at the level of crime in the Castlebellingham area which I feel is at an all-time high. The type of activities involved is the sale and use of illegal drugs, consuming large amounts alcohol in public and fights between a number of persons involved in Anti-Social/criminal activities which has the potential for someone to be killed or seriously injured.”

He emphasised the fact taht only a small minority of people are involved.

“The vast majority of the citizens are law-abiding and the image of this area is being tarnished by a few,” he explained, adding that this was the reason the meeting was requested with Supt Ray Brennan.
