Last Thursday night, November 1, local musician Stewart Agnew took to the stage in Whelan’s, Dublin to compete for a place in the grand final of the ‘Play on the Day’ competition.
Stewart played a live 20-minute set with full band at the east regional finals alongside The Hot Sprockets, The Juice and The Thomas Donoghue Band.
The four acts were competing to win the ultimate prize package in the Arthur’s Day – Play On The Day competition 2012.
Unfortunately for Stewart it was The Hot Sprockets that came out on top however he was still grateful for the chance to perform and for all the support he has received from fans.
“Thank you to everyone who voted for me over the last number of weeks and also to all the great people who travelled from Dundalk to the show on Thursday.
“We gave it our best shot but didn’t quite make it. Great experience and I won’t forget it.
Congratulations to The Hot Sprockets, they are a great band and I wish them the very best of luck in the national finals.”
A spokesperson for Hotpress also congratualted all the bands on putting on a great show.
“It was a great night and all the bands put on a fantastic show.”
The competition, which is supported by Hot Press and RTÉ 2fm, has been a huge success to date with hundreds of bands and artists submitting tracks for consideration.
In all 55 bands were shortlisted and the public have now voted for their favourite tracks from a rich selection of Ireland’s leading emerging talent.
The top four acts in each region were voted to go forward to the Regional Finals, which have so far taken place in Belfast, Dublin and Limerick.
