Cash-in-transit van targeted and robbed near the Ballymac Hotel

Gardai are investigating a robbery on a cash in transit van that took place in the vicinity of Ballymacscanlon on Thursday, September 20.

Gardai are investigating a robbery on a cash in transit van that took place in the vicinity of Ballymacscanlon on Thursday, September 20.

The robbery took place at 1.40pm while the van was making a delivery transaction.

A man who had disguised himself approached the van and threatenened the security guards with an implement.

A cash box containing an undisclosed sum of money was taken during the robbery.

The man fled the scene in an Opel Insignia with a Northern Ireland registration.

It was thought the vehicle headed toward Carlingford but it was later believed to have travelled North and was seen in Northern Ireland.

Gardaí in Dundalk are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have seen the vehicle described above a or anyone acting suspiciously in the Ballymacscanllon area before the incident or as they left the scene.
