Last year Togher na Feirme won the National Indoor Soccer Final and this year it is setting its sights on winning The National Macra Talent Competition

There are eight categories in the talent competition.

These cover a broad range of talents including disco, modern dancing, solo instrumental music, novelty act, solo singing, mastermind, set dancing, comedy and ballad group.

Togher Macra faced stiff competition from other counties including Meath, Dublin, Kildare, Cavan, Leitrim, Sligo, Roscommon, Westmeath, Offaly and Galway.

Ailbhe Rogers took part in the solo instrumental category performing two traditional Irish tunes on the fiddle.

Nicholas woed everyone with his mastermind skills in Irish sport and Rory sang his cover of Chris Brown’s ‘With You’ while accompanying himself on the guitar.

All three were excellent and performed admirably in their chosen areas.

Ailbhe and Nicholas both made it through to the national final which takes place on 19 May at The Helix Dublin at 6.30pm.

Anyone interested in going should note tickets cost €20 and early booking is advised as the capacity of the Helix is 440.

Best of luck to Ailbhe and Nicholas in the final.

This is the first time that Togher Macra has entered this competition and they have certainly made a big impression.

There are five macra clubs in Louth: Togher, Terminfeckin, Tullyallen, Stabannon and DkIT.

It is not exclusively for farmers. The members, who range from 17 to 35, come from all sections of county life and are part of probably the best social networking group in the country.

They take part in sporting activities, public speaking, drama and the arts, and travel.

“Louth is holding its own when you look at Macra from a national point of view,” said Ailbhe.

“Colm Markey from Togher, who is now a county councillor, was a national president.

“He laid down the footwork for us all.”

And Louth Macra has just been commended by AIB for their contribution to the development of the county’s rural communities.
