David Branagan has won the presidential election in the DKIT Student Union elections.

David Branagan has won the presidential election in the DKIT Student Union elections.

David is from Skerries and is current vice president to the outgoing James Clarke.

He managed to beat off David McQuaid of Muirhevna, who is a second year computing student.

His running mate Brendan (Benny) Traynor has also won the vice president’s job.

Benny is from the Point Road area of Dundalk and is the current PRO for the Sean O’Mahony’s GFC.

Running mate Brendan Traynor also beat Niamh Barrett from Dublin, who is in third year Community Sports leadership and and Eoin Healy from Ballymakenny.

The ‘Husting’ took place on Wednesday and there was a strong turn out for the ever popular event.

The record vote was 2100 when the current President, James Clarke was elected. Statistically, more students vote in DkIT each year than any other college in the country. More than 4000 students are eligible to vote.

A spokesperson for DkIT said: “We would like to thank all the candidates for their campaigns that went in a good spirit.”
