Cataract and general eye surgery is due to commence this month at Louth County Hospital - that’s according to Group General Manager - Louth/Meath Hospital Group.

Cataract and general eye surgery is due to commence this month at Louth County Hospital - that’s according to Group General Manager - Louth/Meath Hospital Group.

Margaret Swords says that the full gambit of surgeries will now be be taking place at the hospital, a number of surgeries have been taking place already.

“Dr Morgan has been carrying out Laser Treatment and Intraocular Injections since July” and that “The specialist Nurse has been in place since April, and all of the patients awaiting Cataract Surgery in LCH have been pre-assessed and are ready for surgery.”

Cllr Tómas Sharkey has given a guarded welcome to the news.

“I am giving a guarded welcome to the news in her response that Cataract and other Eye Surgery in Louth County Hospital will commence this month (September).

“The Ophthalmology service is a cross border initiative supported by CAWT.

“There are many people, especially older people, who, I hope, will benefit greatly from this service at their local hospital now that staff and equipment are in place”
