Minister for Education Jan O’Sullivan will attend the launch on Thursday of next week 2 October of the new graduate school which will be set up jointly by Dundalk Institute of Technology and Dublin City University.

Professor Brian MacGraith, a native of Dundalk, and president of Dublin City University and Mr Dennis Cummins, president Dundalk Institute of Technology,

announced last year the decision of the two colleges to come together to form new schools which would be of benefit to both institutions.

It was hailed as a milestone in Irish education.

The alliance has the potential to enhance the capacity of both the institutes and the universities to deliver a quality higher education to their students and maximize effective use of resources. The new structure makes provisions for collaboration in teaching and learning, research and engagement.

“We have declared our intention to continue to develop as an institute of technology while meeting the criteria for technological universities through our close alliance with DCU,” Mr Cummins said at the time.
